Wahooly is a brand spanking new website, which is set to launch very soon. How it works:

Welcome to Wahooly.com, a group of socially-connected individuals that together, help launch startups. As a member of Wahooly, you’ll be presented with up to 200 startups over the next 12 months. If you like what they do and if you think that they have the potential to be the next big thing, you become a user.Your compensation: A piece of the action.

By signing up as a user to one of the startups that Wahooly presents to you, you become an instant shareholder in that startup. If you signup for all 200 startups that Wahooly presents over the next 12 months, you’ll be a shareholder in 200 startups.

Pretty exciting, eh? I am one of the first people to have access to the website once it launches and I can’t wait. The #Wahooligans are those of us who were chosen to be part of the “beta” launch. It’s a group of people from around the world, varying in ages, backgrounds, etc. There is an extremely active Facebook group right now where everyone is starting to connect with one another, and the excitement is building! You can sign up on the website and be in the know once everything opens up.

@Melifotog aka Melissa Calvert

Queer girl temporarily in southern Illinois then off to Chile (nuevamente)! Happily married grad student at SIU. Nerdy about lots of things. I’m also very silly

If you haven’t guessed it yet (the picture makes it obvious, right? :) ), yes, Melissa is my wife. I’ll be saying hasta la pasta to her today at 1pm as she starts her journey for the next four months in Chile where she will be working on research for her Thesis.

I have very mixed emotions right now. I am so happy that she is going on this adventure and pursuing this amazing opportunity, but I’m also sad because I am going to truly miss her. This is the first time in almost 4 years that we have been apart for each other for longer than a week. While I know that technology is going to help us stay close, it’s still going to be hard not having her around me 24-7.  However, this gives us both a really great opportunity to dive into our research/documentary work for a few months without “distraction”. :) It’s good distraction, but nonetheless, I know this will be a great experience for both of us.

Also, don’t think that she gets to have “all the fun”. . . I’ll be joining her in May for 3-4 weeks before my summer semester starts. After our wedding(s) in 2010, we were too busy getting ready to move to Carbondale that we did not take a honeymoon. We’ll finally get that chance to take that trip this year.

Anyway, Melissa will be blogging about her adventures on her website, MelissaKCalvert.com. I’m sure with her fancy dancy new “spy” lens, she’ll have some amazing photos to share!

I heart PhotoJojo

One of my favorite go-to websites for gifts and quirky photo items is Photojojo. They always have new and fun products that I lust over for usually great prices. Here are a couple of items that caught my eye this week:

For the designer/photo nerd in your life:

Buy the Camera Lingo Necklaces at the Photojojo Store!

and. . . for those of us looking for a great stabilizer for our DSLR cameras:

Buy the The Cam Caddie at the Photojojo Store!

I’m fascinated with videos that incorporate real life and animated footage. I hope I can accomplish something like this someday. . .

Instagram Wednesdays!

How many of you are iPhoneography addicts? Come on, admit it. It’s addicting!  I’m a big Instagram user and not only follow a bunch of friends, but have found some interesting people along the way. Each week, I’ll highlight some of my fave photos.

Photo One: The President

The President is on Instagram

Obama has joined Instagram last night. As of 11:30pm (CST), he had almost 8,500 followers. Who wants to bet he will hit at least 100,000 by Friday?

Photo Two: Can I Haz Puppies?

by freewheelburnin

Yes, I am a sucker for cute animal shots!

Photo Three: Sue Sylvester is a Crafty Lady

It’s an “amigurumi” from Allison Hoffman. I wonder if I can convince her to make my very own Santana doll. . .

That’s it for this week!

Hello 2012 – Are you Ready?

Hello old and new friends to the new and improved website!

Wow. 2012!!! The new year always feels like a fresh start, a new beginning. . . Don’t we all tell ourselves this every year? Does it feel different to you this year?

For me, it feels like things are falling into place. I have an amazing partner, Melissa; we are both pursuing our academic dreams; and for the first time in quite a while, I have found a job that not only do I enjoy, but I feel completely confident in my abilities to kick some arse.

With all that being said, and despite the craziness that will be unleashed once my semester begins at the end of this month, I feel really good about the year ahead. Some amazing things are happening this year:

  • I’m working on my first film, Jake and Janie and will be launching my first Kickstarter fundraising campaign in February
  • I joined Weight Watchers and hope to really stick with it! This will hopefully kickstart my training for the St. Louis half-marathon in April
  • Travel is also in my future this year! In March, I’ll be traveling to Las Vegas to film more footage and more interviews with my parents and others. I’ll also be going to LA as well to spend some spend much-needed quality time with my friends/family.
  • Also, as I mentioned above, Melissa and I are both working on our grad degrees, and she is leaving in two weeks to work on research for the entire semester in Chile! We’ll be apart for a few months, but at the end of it all, I will be joining her for a way-past-due month-long honeymoon, exploring that beautiful country

What about you? What is happening in your lives this year? Enquiring minds want to know!

Happy New Year!
